Faces Behind the Places of DePauw University

This guide includes historical information about the people behind DePauw University's building names.

Merle Royse Walker

Walker Field, home of DePauw baseball, was named in honor of Merle Royse "Ole" Walker, class of 1912. Merle was a two-sport athlete and earned letters in both football and basketball. He went on to have a career as a layer and investments counselor. His three children and four grandchildren funded the $60,000 construction of Walker Field. The project was completed for the 1983 baseball season. The facility includes full fencing, dugouts, a scoreboard, an outfield warning track and press box. Two sides have bleacher seating and the alternative sides have hillside seating. In 1984, a dedication ceremony and alumni game were hosted on the field.
