Accessing News and Newspapers through DePauw Libraries: The Economist

This guide provides information about DePauw University's subscription access to various news outlets and how to setup your account and what content is available to students, staff and faculty at DePauw.

Welcome to the Economist

DePauw University Libraries are pleased to announce unlimited access to all features and resources of The Economist both online and through the Economist apps for all students, staff, and faculty through your @depauw.edu email address.

Activating your Economist Subscription

Step 1: Visit https://myaccount.economist.com/s/login/SelfRegister

Step 2: Fill out your details ensuring to use your DePauw email address, then click on 'Create account'

 

Note: It is not required to click the 'Yes, I agree' checkbox

Note: If you already have an Economist account linked to your DePauw Email Address, change the email on that subscription to your personal email address. Once that is done come back and start with Step 1

Step 3: On creating your account you will see the following screen

Step 4: Check your email for the verification message and click on the 'Verify email' button

 

Step 5: On verifying your email, you will see the following verification confirmation message, click 'Continue' to login to your account

Step 6: When you click continue it will take you to a Welcome screen. Click "Get Started" and personalize your Economist experience as you prefer. If you do not want to subscribe to newspapers, download the Economist app, etc. you can click "Skip for Now" at the bottom of the scren.

Step 7: Once you continue (or skip) past the preference pages it will take you to The Economist homepage.

Step 8: On login click on the 'My Economist" at the top right corner, then click on the 'Account' option.

Step 9: Scroll down to the "My Subscription" section to check your subscription status -- it is good practice to verify that your DePauw University subscription is actually active.

 

Step 10: Your subscription is now active and ready for use both on and off-campus.

Access includes:

  • Digital newsletters - curated topical opinion 
  • Audio version & podcasts - immersive listening
  • The digital archive - all our content since 1997
  • Webinars and conferences - intelligent debate and informed analysis 
  • Flagship franchises - The World in and 1843 magazine

The Economist has a range of apps for both Apple and Android devices:

  • The Economist - including: The Economist Today, a handpicked daily selection of the best of our journalism; Espresso, our morning briefing; and your full weekly edition of The Economist newspaper, to read or listen to on the go. Available on iOS and Android.
  • Espresso - your daily morning news briefing from the editors of The Economist. Delivered to your smartphone before breakfast, it tells you what's on the global agenda for the coming day, summarising the latest news and highlights the most important stories of the day ahead in business, finance and politics. Available on iOS and Android.
  • The Economist offers an audio edition of its contents through the Economist app's 'Weekly Section'
