UNIV 325: Science Fellowship Application Workshop: Methods and Protocol Searching

This guide is designed to help students in Eppley's UNIV 325 course locate and organize sources related to their unique research proposals.

Search Suggestions

To locate information on methods in general research literature try plugging in your topic and combining it with search terms like: method, protocol, research design, instrument, instrumentation, standards, directions, preparation, materials, assessment, survey, questionnaire, analysis or analytical methods

  • Example: (methods OR protocol) AND keyword
  • Example: (methods OR protocol) AND "epithelial attachment"

To locate information on methods/protocols from the databases below, you may be more successful finding protocols by using terms that are specific technical terms and/or action verbs. To identify tools and units of measurement for your variable(s), read methods sections of articles of interest to you and try those key terms in the search boxes.

  • Example terms: spectrometry, culture technique, cell staining, assay, mutation detection, microscopy, staining

If you have absolutely no idea where to start try browsing some of the resources below. Though DePauw DOES NOT have access to JoVE Encyclopedia of Experiments you can browse the videos and take key terms from the titles/descriptions if the video seems appropriate for what you're looking for.
