HIST 300 - Cities in Asia

This guide is for Josh Herr's Spring 2023 course.

Pre-session survey

Hi - please take a couple of minutes to fill out this survey, so that I can know more about where you're starting from, in terms of library research experience.

Search WorldCat Discovery at DePauw

When you find a record for a print book owned by DePauw Libraries, there will be a call number to tell you where to look for the book. Any books in the Roy O. West Library General Collection will be located in the following places:

  • Call numbers beginning with A-G:   Lower level in the compact shelving room
  • Call numbers beginning with H-K:   Second floor (K books are in the overlook area of the Reading Room)
  • Call numbers beginning with L-Z:    Third floor

To find the book on those shelves, you'll need to know how to read the call number. One hint - the numbers on line 2 are read as whole numbers, while the ones on line 3 (following a letter) are read like decimals. So in the example below, .49 comes before .5

If you find a book of interest that we don't own, you can use the blue "Request Item" button you see in the WorldCat Discovery record.

This will initiate an interlibrary loan request. We'll find another library that has a copy and get them to send it to DePauw. You'll probably be able to pick it up in 7-10 days.
