Question of the Week Board - Roy O. West Library: Board FAQ

This guide contains pics from past questions and an FAQ about the board.

FAQ

Q: When did the QOTW board begin?
A: Fall 2013, with a question about what popular magazines we should subscribe to.

Q: Who's behind the QOTW board?
A: Tiffany Hebb (me!) is the primary librarian responsible for the board.

Q: How do you come up with the questions for the board?
A: Mostly just asking around for ideas - sometimes they're inspired by holidays or events. Student groups (such as DSG) have collaborated with us on questions in the past as well.

Q: Do you want serious answers to the questions?
A: Yes! And I also want the not-serious ones! The mix of sincerity and sarcasm is what makes it so great.

Q: Can I change the question on the board?
A: No - you shouldn't censor the questions & answers already there. Instead, make a suggestion for a future week!

Q: Can I ask Tiffany about the board, or make suggestions for future questions?
A: Absolutely! Stop in my office, behind the circulation desk at Roy O. to chat, email me, or fill out the form for suggested questions. If you're suggesting a future question, be prepared to say if there's a specific time period when it would be best to ask it.

Q: Will you run any question I suggest?
A: No.

  • Questions should be answerable by all our patrons, so it would be unusual for us to post a question that only a subset of students could answer (like something relevant only for men, only sorority members, only international students, only science majors, etc.)
  • We won't use a question that's part of an activist movement (even if we really, really agree with the cause). The board is totally neutral. You CAN, however, work your own activism into answers on the board - we totally support that.
  • We will adhere to some basic rules of civility, conscious of the fact that the board is in a very visible location and that people have different levels of comfort with some topics.
