General Citation Guide: Home

Overview

There are many ways to cite resources in your research.

The citation style you use will often depends on the academic discipline involved.

For example:

  • MLA style is typically used by the Humanities
  • APA style is often used by Education and Psychology
  • Chicago/Turabian style is generally used by History, Business, and some of the Fine Arts

Cite Like a Pro!

  • Check with your faculty to ensure that you are using the preferred citation style for your specific course.
  • Pay close attention to punctuation and capitalization; this can make or break the formatting!
  • Avoid relying on automatically generated citations.
  • If you do decide to use automatically generated citations, make sure to always check these citations against the citation format you are using, as they are not always accurate.

Citation Management

If you need help organizing your sources, consider using a citation management tool!
