Getting Started:
It can be overwhelming to use new library resources for a project. Remember that at every point of your project, you can ask for help. The DePauw librarians, the Peer Research Consultants, and your teacher are here to help you!
Here is a list of steps that you can use to complete your assignment:
- Do a quick google search to see what types of plants pop up. Just scan the results until you find a plant that is interesting to you! There is no need to worry about if the source is scholarly or not, that will come later.
- Once you determine the plant you want to use, start by using the library databases to find sources for your assignment.
- Start by limiting your sources to the last ten years for the most up-to-date information.
- Take notes during your search in order to see what works best for you.
- If there is not enough information about your plant on the library databases, search Google Scholar for more sources.
- As you find sources in Google Scholar, you can clicked the cited by tab underneath the article description to find more related sources
- Evaluate the sources that you find to determine if they are the correct type of source. The Youtube video to the left should help with this.
- Read your sources carefully and take notes.
