Loan periods for Music Library items

How long may I keep it?

The Music Library has many different resources: Books, scores, CDs, DVDs, and more.  These items have different loan periods. Items borrowed from any DePauw Library, as well as Interlibrary Loan items, may be returned at any library on campus.

It's due now, but I still need it!

If you need an item for a longer period of time than the usual loan, you are welcome to renew it.  Stop by the Music Library Service Desk, send an email to Terry Noble, the Music Library Manager, or renew online.

Recalls and Holds

What do I do if an item I need is currently listed as "Unavailable" (probably checked out to someone else) in the catalog?

Check for second copies - The library often owns more than one copy of an item, particulary if it is a score or sound recording.  You may be able to find an alternate item, or ask one of the staff to help you.

Holds - If you would like to have an item which is currently checked out held for you when it is returned, click on the "Unavailable" link and it will take you to a page that shows the item information.  Click on the "Request" link.  This will take you to library account login page.  You must place this request from your own account.  Ask one of our staff if you need assistance.

Recalls - If an item is needed quickly you may request a recall.  This needs to be done by one of the library supervisors.  Once a recall is placed, the person who has the item will receive a message asking them to bring it back within 5 days.

Interlibrary Loan - Items can be borrowed from other libraries.  This is EASY.  You do not need to tell us where the item is located, our Interlibrary Loan staff will do that, just provide some basic information (title, author/composer).  There is a place for "Notes" on the online form, use that to indicate which edition/voice part/arrangement, etc. you need.  Click here to access the Interlibrary Loan page.
